Somewhere Else

Come on a musical journey with Gillian and Charles as they accompany George the duck in Gus Gordon’s delicious tale about friendship, having the courage to venture out of your comfort zone, perseverance and the diversity of places that bird, and people alike, can travel to.

Somewhere Else was our 2017 Book Week show. Students from K to Year 6, teachers, librarians, parents and grandparents were equally enthralled, but we particularly recommend it for upper primary students.

The performance itself is 35 minutes and is followed by a lively Q & A where the story and illustrations (high res. projections) are discussed, instruments and props explained (melodica, panflute, chimes, various hooters and whistles, an old typewriter and more). Some of the music is original, but for the most part we have chosen music from different eras, dating as far back as the late 19th century, which raises a lot of interest.

Comments from Year 5 and 6 students:
“I have no words…that was the best thing I’ve ever seen!”
“The music perfectly expressed all the emotions in the story.”
